State Road 7 News!
The project commencement date for Phase I is today, January 2, 2013 and is scheduled to be completed by December 27, 2013. Extension/Persimmon Blvd. to 60th Street No. and 60th Street North to East of Royal Palm Beach Blvd.
The Purpose of the project is to provide an efficient connection between Okeechobee Boulevard and Northlake Boulevard for the western areas of Palm Beach County as travel demands are expected to grow.
Proposed improvements consist of widening from SR 7 from two to four lanes from Okeechobee Boulevard to 60th Street and construction of a new four lane divided facility 60th Street to Northlake Boulevard.
Three (3) alignment variations are proposed for the segment between 60th Street and Northlake Boulevard. These include the West, Center, and East Alignment options. The typical section throughout the entire project includes four 12 foot wide lanes separated by a 42 foot wide median. Four foot wide bicycle lanes and six foot wide sidewalks are proposed along both sides of the roadway. A shared-use path option is also proposed for consideration.
Various intersection options are proposed throughout the project. At Okeechobee Boulevard, both an at-grade intersection and grade separated interchange are being considered. In addition, a roundabout or T-intersection option is being considered for both intersections at 60th Street and the entrance to Ibis Golf and Country Club. Two options for the crossing over the M-Canal are also proposed. One option would include a skewed bridge crossing and the second option proposes a straight bridge crossing, perpendicular to the M-Canal.

Summary of Environmental Impacts
- There is potential need for a noise wall along the Baywinds community.
- Approximately 7.3 acres of impact to the Pond Cypress Natural Area are associated with the Straight Bridge Crossing Option.
- The project could result in 114.5 acres of direct wetland impacts, regardless of the Build Alternative.
- The project may impact the Wood Stork and the Snail Kite. Coordination is underway with the Fish and Wildlife Service.
- There are business and right of way impacts associated with the Overpass Option at Okeechobee Boulevard.
Community Coordination and Involvement
Public involvement is key to good transportation planning and decision making. The goal of public involvement is to ensure that concerns of everyone with a stake in transportation decisions are identified and addressed in the development of projects proposed in their communities. Communicating project-related information to these stakeholders is a vital part of the PD&E process and the Public Hearing provides the opportunity for stakeholders and interest parties to receive current information regarding the progress of the study and the preferred alternatives. Individuals may make comments during the Public Hearing or in writing up to ten (10) days after the Public Hearing via mail and e-mail. the project website (www.sr7extension.com) was created to give the public access to information regarding project status, upcoming events, frequently asked questions and contact information.
December 2012: Location Design Concept Acceptance (PD&E Study Complete)
November 2013: Design Complete
July 2014: Begin Construction
In 2009, the county opened the Western Parkway reliever road to help alleviate traffic off of Royal Palm Beach Boulevard and provide a quicker route to State Road 7 from The Acreage.
Western communities' officials have generally supported the further extension of State Road 7 to Northlake Boulevard because it will alleviate traffic and provide emergency routes out of The Acreage.
